2010 Workshop Program-Archived

Panel Round 1 — Friday October 1, 2010
Panel Round 2 — Saturday October 2, 2010
Virtual Field Trip — begins Friday, continues Saturday

All panels will be conducted live online via Skype.

Panel Round One
There will be four to five panels, with four to five participants in each panel. Participants will read, comment, and discuss papers chosen from participant submissions. These papers will be available in the weeks leading up to the workshop.

The objective of each session will be to constructively read and discuss the paper, offering its writer constructive advice for publication. As well, participants will discuss how the paper engages with emergent ideas in EH.

Panel Round Two
Participants from the first panels will be rotated into new configurations to continue the discussion of how the papers fit into current debates about environmental history. The purpose of this second round is to draw out larger themes and identify new concerns and issues in environmental history.

Virtual Field Trip
The field trip will be a collaborative experience to explore the scope and ubiquity of global commodity chains. Throughout the workshop, participants are invited to track these chains and upload photos and maps as they explore their localities–and insert place into our placeless workshop.

Technical Requirements
To ensure clear, uninterrupted conversations, participants are asked to …
— have a Skype account. Skype is free to download and use — visit
— have access to high-speed internet connection. A hard-wired connection is preferable to a wireless. If you using WiFi, please ensure that it is a robust and reliable connection!
